Somali national security officer shot dead in Mogadishu

General Mohamed Haji Ali was shot dead Thursday.

MOGADISHU — Two people, including a senior National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) officer have been killed and an another one wounded by gunmen armed with pistols in incidents in Mogadishu.

Thursday’s shooting incidents took place in the city’s Wadajir and Shabis districts. The NISA officer, whose named has been released as Mohamed Haji Ali, was gunned down as he was on his way to home in the Manabolio neighborhood, according to policeman Nurow Jim’ale.

Jim’ale told The Messenger Africa that young men armed with pistols had assassinated Mohamed Haji. ”He was hit several bullets on his chest and head and found dead on the ground,” he said.

Two other assailants also killed a civilian and injured another one at Nasteho neighborhood in Mogadishu’s Wadajir, said a witness, who asked not to be named because of fear of a reprisal attack on his life.

The armed group Al Shabaab group has claimed responsibility for Thursday’s assassination of the NISA officer in the capital.

Mogadishu has witnessed a surge in attacks and assassinations against senior government officials and clan elders who were involved in the electoral process since last February.
