MAHADAY — Two Somali military soldiers have been allegedly executed by Al Shabaab fighters outside Mahaday town, which lies about 120 km north of Mogadishu.
The soldiers from 5th brigade were captured while traveling near the town in the Middle Shabelle region, according to military officer Sadak Ali Forio.
“They (soldiers) were on board when heading to Mahaday but armed militants stopped a minibus in which they traveling in and captured them and then they were killed,” Forio said.
The militants also confiscated two AK-47s and ammunitions that were being carried by the military soldiers, according to Sadak Forio.
“We launched manhunt in rural areas outside Mahaday, in a bid to capture the militants, who were behind the dreadful execution of the soldiers,” he said.
The group’s fighters still control some areas as Somali troops, along with African Union peacekeepers pushed the militants out of key towns in Middle Shabelle region.
