MOGADISHU — Somalia’s government announced on Sunday that a senior Al Shabaab leader and three other fighters were killed in a joint operation carried out by Somalia army and US troops.
Somalia’s information minister said in a statement that a regional militant leader identified as Moalim Osman Abdi Badil had been killed in an attack on the militants’ camp west of Mogadishu.
“The death of Moalim Badil is big blow to Al Shabaab operations in Lower Shabelle region,” the statement reads.
A US Navy SEAL was also killed and two others wounded in the operation
against the Al Shabaab fighters.
