MOGADISHU — Three bomb disposal experts were killed and two others wounded on Wednesday in an explosion in Mogadishu.
The blast happened as bomb disposal experts were dismantling a vehicle laden with explosives, policeman Mohamed Said Nuuh said.
“Three bomb experts died and two others were wounded when a vehicle which they were dismantling exploded. No civilian was killed or injured in the blast,” Nuuh added.
He says security forces arrested a suspected man, who was allegedly driving the vehicle, while two accomplices escaped.
Wednesday’s blast also destroyed several civilian houses, The Messenger Africa‘s journalist, Abdirizak Mohamud Tuuryare reported from the scene of the explosion.
The armed group Al Shabaab immediately claimed responsibility for the explosion, saying it killed foreign and Somali bomb disposal experts in the blast. The bomb explosion comes 2 days after a car laden with explosives blew up near the presidential Palace in Mogadishu.
