BAIDOA – Four soldiers have been killed and more than two others injured in roadside explosion near Baidoa town, which lies some 250 km (155 miles) southwest of the capital Mogadishu.

Sunday’s blast targeted a military vehicle belonging to soldiers from South-West Sate as they were travelling from the village of Daynunay to Baidoa town, according to police officer Harun Mohamud.

Mohamud told The Messenger that at least four soldiers on board were killed in the explosion, adding that others who were injured were taken into hospital in the town of Baidoa.

“It was an IED blast which hit a military convoy. We lost four soldiers in the blast. We also took several others into hospital in the town,” he said.

The armed group Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the bomb attack.
